Tech companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon have spent MILLIONS on lobbyists to oppose SESTA designed to PREVENT online trafficking and prostitution of children and women. .
The original intent of Congress regarding Section #230, nicknamed “The Good Samaritan Defense", was to protect service providers that attempted in “good faith to prevent minor aged children from accessing online pornography, Sadly, the unintended consequences of the misuse of #230 by federal courts and tech companies has protected companies like Backpage from being held liable for content they know about being posted by its users…including ads buying and selling children and women for sex and trafficking.
However, there is good news. Because of the efforts of people like you, Senator Portman was able to get the Internet Association that represents companies like Google and Facebook to agree to a compromise and it looks like there may be a good chance to get this bi-partisan legislation through the U.S. Senate.
Congress and the Big Tech companies are finally listening, but the fight is not over and Congress still needs to hear from you. Many Senators who were getting “slammed” by Big Tech lobbyists still need to know that people like you support their legislative efforts to help stop human trafficking and give victims legal recourse against those who have profited from their suffering and abuse. Unfortunately, there are so called Internet Freedom groups, like the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), that are continuing to oppose SESTA.
Time is of the essence. This Wednesday, November 8, The Senate Judiciary will vote on SESTA. That is why we need you to tell the Commerce Committee that you support the SESTA legislation to Amend CDA 230 that prevents websites like Backpage from profiting off of sex trafficking victims! They need to hear from you now so that SESTA passes and goes to the rest of the Senate for a vote. We will send an email on your behalf to the Senators from your state informing them that you support SESTA.
By signing this petition letter in support of SESTA which is going directly into the inboxes of the Senators from your state, you will be sending a loud clear message that concerned citizens like you are standing in support of this much needed bipartisan legislation. CLICK HERE TO SIGN THE LETTER TO THE U.S. SENATE NOW.
If SESTA becomes law, this will give federal and state law enforcement the legal tool to win prosecutions against BackPage and others -- sites that knowingly facilitate sex trafficking.
Finally, please consider watching the documentary "I Am Jane Doe", which chronicles the epic battle that several American mothers are waging on behalf of their under-age daughters who were bought and sold for sex on Backpage. Their suits against Backpage put them on a collision course with judges and special interest groups. SESTA will change that and give them the justice they so desperately seek and deserve.
Thank you for putting the safety and innocence of our children first!
