The pandemic has brought more children online than ever before, with many of them on multiple social media platforms and on multiple devices.
“Facebook’s plan to create Instagram for preteens is ill considered and dangerous,” North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein said Wednesday. “Social networking sites create issues for teenagers. There’s risk to their personal safety. There’s cyberbullying. There’s social anxiety. It’s bad enough in our middle and high schools, we do not need this in our elementary schools...”
“There are so many issues with Instagram or any social media company even considering going younger than 13,” said Donna Rice Hughes, president and CEO of the nonprofit Enough is Enough.
