October Highlights Three Key Ways to Defend Your Child In the Digital World

Did you know that nearly half of young people (47%) have received intimidating, threatening or nasty messages online? Of children currently experiencing a mental health problem, over 2/3 (68%) say they experienced cyberbullying in the last year. As kids and young people are using social media for longer periods and on multiple social platforms, we must be able to recognize red flags that signal they may be a victim of cyberbullying.

Now, more than ever, it's important to protect you and your loved ones from online threats including identify theft, phishing (being tricked into revealing personal information), access to account information by cyber criminals, and more. See our Cyber Security section featuring ways to lock down your Internet-enabled devices, and our "Online Guide to Privacy" featuring tools to protect your data. Also, be sure to visit Homeland Security's"Stop. Think. Connect" Toolkit which has resources tailored to parents, businesses, law enforcement, and others. Better to be Cyber safe, than Cyber sorry!
