Enough Is Enough® Commends Sunset 230 Act Introduction

“It’s time for Big Tech’s Immunity to End,” says EIE President

WASHINGTON, DC (December 18, 2025) – Enough Is Enough® (EIE) supports the introduction of Sunset 230 Act of 2025 that will end Big Tech’s liability shield, Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, introduced today by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL).
“When the Communications Decency Act was passed in 1996, it was intended to encourage internet services to protect children from sexually explicit content online without fear of liability. But misguided federal court rulings have historically rendered CDA 230 ineffective – it is now used as a legal shield to protect Big Tech instead of protecting children, which was Congress’ original intent. We are encouraged that Sens. Graham and Durbin have introduced the Sunset 230 Act of 2025 to end the blanket immunity that tech platforms have enjoyed,” said Donna Rice Hughes, President and CEO, Enough Is Enough®.

“Children have been immeasurably harmed by social media, gaming, and other digital platforms. Predators and sex traffickers have had easy access to children, addictive algorithms have targeted our children, and tech platforms have been intentionally designed to maximize profits, not for safety. Children have been exposed to hardcore pornography that has robbed them of their innocence, while others have been targets of sextortion, leading some to commit suicide. Big Tech companies must be held accountable for these atrocities, but CDA 230 has prevented children from receiving justice. It is time for Big Tech’s immunity to end,” said Hughes.

For over two decades, Enough Is Enough® has called for bipartisan Congressional efforts to amend Section 230 to allow prosecution of those who facilitate illegal commercial sex acts via the internet, in order to thwart the online sexual exploitation and abuse of children and to prevent those engaged in it from profiting from their exploitation. Preventing the online exploitation and abuse of children is a unifying non-partisan issue that has widespread bipartisan support at both the federal and state level of governments. EIE, along with Pledge Supporting Organizations and Survivor Leaders representing millions of Americans, called upon the 2024 presidential candidates to repeal Section 230 as part of its 2024 Children’s Internet Safety Presidential Pledge.

“I am extremely pleased that there is such wide and deep bipartisan support for repealing Section 230, which protects social media companies from being sued by the people whose lives they destroy. Giant social media platforms are unregulated, immune from lawsuits and are making billions of dollars in advertising revenue off some of the most unsavory content and criminal activity imaginable. It is past time to allow those who have been harmed by these behemoths to have their day in court,” said Sen. Graham.

In addition to Durbin and Graham, the Sunset Section 230 Act is sponsored by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Ashley Moody (R-FL), and Peter Welch (D-VT).
