Trump Administration Poised To Tackle Children’s Online Safety

The Children’s Internet Safety Presidential Pledge - Foundational to Draining the Cyber Swamp

For Immediate Release
January 30, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC — Enough Is Enough® (EIE), a bi-partisan organization dedicated to making the Internet safer for children and families, is positioned to work alongside the Trump administration in advancing the tenets of The Children's Internet Safety Presidential Pledge, which was signed by then candidate Donald J. Trump on July 16, 2016.

“President Trump’s commitment to uphold both the rule of law and The Pledge is evidenced by his nomination of Senator Jeff Sessions as the 84th U.S. Attorney General. With the impending confirmation of Senator Sessions, the Trump administration is positioned to begin draining the cyber swamp by aggressively enforcing existing laws to prevent the sexual exploitation of children online, including the federal obscenity, child pornography, sexual predation, and sex trafficking laws. Making the virtual square safer for all Americans is now possible for the first time in history,” said EIE’s President and CEO Donna Rice Hughes, who has fought for over two decades for the restoration of a culture where children’s innocence is protected and all people are treated with dignity and respect.

The Pledge also calls for the necessary resources and tools to prosecute such crimes, the establishment of public-private partnerships to step up voluntary efforts to reduce these threats, and the appointment of a multi-sector Presidential Commission to identify effective strategies for protecting children in the digital age.

At the recommendation of a senior official on Trump’s transition team, EIE developed The Children’s Internet Safety Presidential Proposal (CISPP), which incorporates the tenets of The Pledge and is supplemented by additional recommendations by EIE and other NGO groups including the establishment of the President’s Interagency Internet Safety Working Group and an Internet Safety Industry Advisory Council.

Dr. Jill Manning, a researcher, EIE Board member and co-author with Hughes of The Children’s Internet Safety Presidential Proposal concluded: “Implementation of The Children’s Internet Safety Presidential Proposal will allow President Trump to effectuate his commitment to prevent the online sexual exploitation of children and to synergistically support the First Lady’s platform issue of cyberbullying. Making the Internet safe for children is crucial to making America both great and secure.”

EIE is urging the public to support the effort by using the hashtag #DrainTheCyberswamp on their social media channels.

Enough Is Enough®® is a national bi-partisan non-profit organization who has led the fight to make the Internet safer for children and families since 1994. EIE's efforts are focused on combating Internet pornography, child pornography, sexual predation, sex trafficking and cyberbullying by incorporating a three-pronged prevention strategy with shared responsibilities between the public, Corporate America, and the legal community. EIE continues to press forward with its current National Porn Free WiFi Campaign urging American companies offering free public WiFi to their patrons to voluntarily filter child porn and pornography. In response, McDonald’s is now filtering their in store WiFi in almost all of their 14,000 stores and Starbucks has issued a policy to do the same.
